Today, I received Brad's quarterly progress report from school. As many of you know, Brad is/was very delayed in his speech and fine motor skills and was therefore labeled as a "special needs" child. At first, I was not willing to accept this label, but I have grown to accept it and the great help that we have received for it. Brad now attends North Syracuse Early Education Program at Main Street in the early intervention program. When school started in September, Brad spoke, but it was a bunch of garbly goop that was very hard for people (outside of the family) to understand. He was also delayed in his fine motor skills. Now, Brad talks a mile a minute and repeats back alot of things that are said around him. Some of the things that come out of his mouth either make me laugh or want to cry.
His progress report said that he is coming along good in the fine motor department, but he still has trouble at circle time with the other kids. He would rather sit outside of the circle, watching, rather than participate with the rest of his class. If he is called upon for something, he will then participate, but will quickly go outside of the circle and lay on the floor and watch. I think this comes from not being around kids much, if not at all. As far as the fine motor stuff, he can cut a straight line and a circle with scissors, make a cross on paper, and is starting to hold his pen the correct way.
As for the speech, Brad is having a more detailed "review" in the next couple of weeks. This is to see if he will still continue on in the early intervention program next year. There is no doubt in my mind that he will, but it is required by the state and county.
To Brad-----Keep up the great work!! We are all so proud of how far you have come!!
